Bastille Day Weekend Is Almost Here!

bastille_day

Bastille Day is next weekend which means there’s going to be plenty of cool events for you to check out around Philadelphia. For those not familiar, Bastille Day is a French national holiday to celebrate the storming of the Bastille during the French Revolution. In France, it’s celebrated much like our own Fourth of July – with parades, family, and plenty of food. If you’re a Francophile looking to celebrate, take a look at some of these events popping up around the city!

Bastille Day Block Party at Eastern State Penitentiary

Fairmount Avenue hosts a Bastille Day block party every year in front of the Eastern State Penitentiary. This year’s day-long shindig will be taking place on Saturday, July 15th. Head on over there for a re-enactment of the storming of the Bastille walls, performances by the Bearded Ladies Cabaret and a variety of other appearances from historical figures. Plus, what would a festival be without plenty of food and booze? This is one summer festival not to miss!

London Grill

London Grill also partakes each year in commemorating Bastille Day. Join them next Friday the 14th for French quizzo from 8 to 10pm and enjoy their Kronenbourg Brewery specials.

Additionally, as the festivities at Eastern State Penitentiary wrap up on Saturday the 15th, the party will move down the street to London Grill where they’ll be hosting a street party outside the restaurant. Get ready for some drinks and musical performances.

Bastille Day at Bistrot La Minette

Celebrate Bastille Day with a meal from our friends at Bistrot La Minette. The authentic and charming restaurant, located at 6th and Bainbridge Streets, will be serving a special $40/person menu available on Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th. This French picnic-inspired menu features four courses including a buffet and will offer classics like vichyssoise, quiche Lorraine, and mille feuille among many other wonderful dishes. If a lavish, hearty meal is what you had in mind for a Bastille Day celebration, then this is for you.

Bon appétit!
