Rival Brotherly Love

COOK’s boutiqe packs a powerful punch. In a cozy corner of our demonstration kitchen is a highly concentrated retail nook filled to the brim with utensils, herbs and spices, soaps, candles, and pantry essentials. More and more, we have been adding local artisan goods to the mix. You may recall previous blog posts detailing such local items–pickles from Jersey Gina’s Gems, Side Project Jerky, and the Fresh Food Memory Game to name a few.

Our most recent local addition? COOK now carries a variety of whole bean coffee from Rival Bros. Coffee Roasters.

  • Whistle & Cuss
complex, sweet, toasted hazelnut, berry finish; recommended for espresso, drip, French press and pour over
  • Revolver
rich, balanced, chocolate, spicy finish; recommended for drip, French press and pour over
  • Decaf Palooka
bold, round, toffee, thyme finish; recommended for espresso, drip, French press and pour over
  • Sulawesi
single origin selection; clean, bright, sweet tomato, bell pepper, earthy

In case you’re unfamiliar with the Rival Bros. story, here’s the skinny. The small batch roasting company was founded by lifelong friends (and Philly natives) Damien Pileggi and Jonathan Adams, aka Johnny Mac, the former Snack Bar and Pub & Kitchen chef extraordinaire. Rival Bros. success is a result of Adams’ culinary talent and Pileggi’s roasting experience. The pair custom selects blends and single origin varieties from around the globe and roasts them right here in the City of (Rival) Brotherly Love.

If you want to sample the goods before you buy, check out the Rival Bros. coffee truck Monday through Friday at 33rd & Arch Street, from 7:30am to 2pm. Plus, follow them on Twitter and/or Facebook for special announcements, including appearance dates at upcoming events and festivals.

We’re fairly confident you’ll ditch your Folgers after tasting, in which case you can get your fix at COOK. Our retail boutique is open daily from noon to 5pm. All varieties are $15 for 12 ounces; varieties subject to change in the future as additional blends and single origins become available.
