Katie grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA. Years of competitive gymnastics sparked her interest in nutrition. She realized early on that she could not be a good dietitian without a better understanding of food. After traveling through Europe and solidifying her love for food, her quest for culinary knowledge led her to Johnson and Wales University in Providence Rhode Island. She graduated with an AS in Culinary Arts and a BS in Culinary Nutrition. Upon graduation she was accepted to Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts were she successfully completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition and became a Registered Dietitian. Katie holds a certification in Adult Weight Management through the American Dietetic Association and Center for Dietetic Registration. Katie is the president/owner of Healthy Bites which offers nutrition and culinary services with the goal of facilitating long term healthy lifestyle changes. Katie has taught nutrition at West Chester University and at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College. Katie is the nutrition advisor for Unite for Her, a foundation that supports breast cancer patients. She is a regular contributor on ABC, Fox, NBC and CBS in Philadelphia as an expert in her field. She can also be seen in several capacities on the Veria Healthy Living Network as a culinary nutrition expert. She writes weekly for “Healthy Eats”, a national nutrition blog on Foodnetwork.com. Katie and Healthy Bites have been showcased in O, the Oprah Magazine, Family Circle Magazine, Parents Magazine, Fitness Magazine, Women’s Health Magazine, Health Magazine, Oxygen Magazine, Newsweek Magazine, the Daily Candy, and the Philadelphia Inquirer to name a few. She was awarded Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of Philly 2009 – Best Meal Delivery Service”, “Best of Philly 2011 – Best Breakfast Sandwich” and most recently “Best of Philly 2012-Nutritionist”. Katie is the dietitian for the Philadelphia Phillies and she cooks privately for several professional athletes including members of the Phillies, Flyers and Eagles. She was one of 10 finalists on season 5 of The Next Food Network Star. She is a regular contributor on Martha Stewart Radio and Dr. Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio. Katie is a spokesperson for several companies and commodity groups including Independence Blue Cross’, Healthy Steps Program and the United States Potato Board’s “Potato Type Series.” It is her mission to use her unique skill sets as a dietitian and chef to show others how easy and fun it can be to live a healthy lifestyle. Katie promotes the use of whole foods, farm to table fare and the use of seasonal, local ingredients.
