Sfera Macerato
Made from Verdeca, a varietal indigenous to Puglia, this is a great introduction to skin contact (aka orange) wine. Nothing super funky here, just a bright, lean wine that’s gulpable. With juicy dried pear and dried lime zest notes, it’s fantastic with white pizza, Mexican fare, salads and seafood. Bonus: it’s a liter sized bottle!
Valentina Passalacqua ‘Lux’ Bombino
A hazy, grapefruit-hued skin contact wine made from Bombino Bianco. Citrusy, stone fruit-y, herbaceous and funky. Try it with salads, ceviche and shellfish.
Valentina Passalacqua Nero di Troia
A subtly tannic wine, full of rich red fruit and mineral character, as well as hints of spice, herbs and black peppercorns. Lighter bodied than it looks, this Italian red pairs well with rich grilled meat like burgers, steak and lamb, as well as earthier mushrooms such as maitake.
Filippo Cassano CALX Primitivo
This certified organic red is a lively take on Primitivo, which is a genetic twin of Zinfandel. Notes of hard herbs, cedar, zingy red berries and dried figs. Enjoy slightly chilled with grilled poultry, firm sheep cheeses, and tomato ragù.
Trullo Di Pezza “Mezza Pezza” Primitivo
Organically farmed, this is a more traditional Primitivo compared to CALX. Fresh and intense on the nose with aromas of cherry, plum, and tobacco. It’s supple on the palate with concentrated fruit and an elegant finish. Pair it with eggplant parmigiana, meat sauce pastas and roasted red meat.
