Michael Schulson’s Class Was One Heck of a Party

My friend, Philadelphia magazine chairman, David Lipson, his wife Susan, and about 15 of their nearest and dearest turned out for our other friend, Michael Schulson’s, class at COOK into quite the rager on Friday night.

The evening started off with some local foodie celebrities stopping by (ie Rob Wasserman from Rouge whose class on 9/30 is sold out and Georges Perrier who already brought the house down at our first class on 9/6). They helped kick off what was to be a great night of amazing food and good fun!

Schulson brought his A+++ – game in terms of food and prepared the following menu of Asian-inspired dishes – which can be found at his restaurants, Sampan and Izakaya:

Butlered Hors d’oeuvres:

Tuna Rice Cracker (Sesame, Nori, Soy)

Edamame Dumplings (Truffle, Pea Shoot, Sake Broth)

Crab Wonton Taco (Avocado, Cilantro, Pickled Shallot)

1st Course:

Hamachi Carpaccio (Sizzling Sesame Oil, Ginger, Ponzu)

2nd Course:

Kobe Beef Satay (Apricot, Soy, Mirin) + King Crab Satay (Yuzu, Miso, Charred Pineapple)

3rd Course:

Soy Glazed Chilean Sea Bass (Cauliflower, Grapefruit, Apple Slaw)

4th Course:

Filet Mignon (Soy Butter, Mustard, Spinach)

Crispy Brussel Sprout (Fish Sauce, Puffed Rice, Chili)

5th Course:

Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate (Flourless Cake, Dulce de Leche, Vietnamese Ice Cream)

Needless to say, this class rocked and Schulson will be returning to COOK in November to teach a kids cooking class (cue collective “awwww”).
