FEASTIVAL Photo Slideshow

It’s now a week after the second annual FEASTIVAL, a benefit for the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe. Team FEASTIVAL has finally recuperated. Wow! What a night!!! We raised $400,000 and 800 people showed up!! It truly was the party of the year (again)!!!

Check out this photo slideshow by Suzanne Tenuto Photography who caught on film the flavors of the evening so perfectly.

These images truly capture the collaboration (we love that word here at COOK) of both the culinary excellence and live arts magnificence of Philadelphia. Our city is just that cool!!

Michael Schulson’s Class Was One Heck of a Party

My friend, Philadelphia magazine chairman, David Lipson, his wife Susan, and about 15 of their nearest and dearest turned out for our other friend, Michael Schulson’s, class at COOK into quite the rager on Friday night.

The evening started off with some local foodie celebrities stopping by (ie Rob Wasserman from Rouge whose class on 9/30 is sold out and Georges Perrier who already brought the house down at our first class on 9/6). They helped kick off what was to be a great night of amazing food and good fun!

One of my Best Meals EVER!

Last night, I went for an *early* dinner at 11pm at Stephen Starr’s El Rey. I go there a lot and I am always impressed with the food and general attitude of everyone inside.

But last night, I was feeling a tad difficult 😉 and all I wanted was a breakfast burrito. A breakfast burrito at 11pm, you say? Well, that’s what I was craving. And what I got hit the spot like never before.

Notes from the 57th Summer Fancy Food Show

Last week, the ladies of COOK ventured south of the Mason-Dixon line to sweltering Washington DC for the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade’s (NASFT) 57th Summer Fancy Food Show. The 3-day event, normally held in NYC, showcased 180,000 specialty foods and beverages and was a combination of overwhelming and delicious. And while we didn’t see them down there, I know that COOK’s Philly pals Metropolitan Bakery and Di Bruno Bros were also there to sample the goods and promote their own. Herewith, some observations and brilliant finds.

Where’s the Beef? Part Deux

The carnivore inside me was more than sated after Saturday’s inaugural Philadelphia Burger Brawl.

The event was conceived by Rob and Maggie Wasserman of Rouge and 500°, and I had the honor and privilege of being on the panel of judges alongside Food Network host Marc Summers, Mike Jerrick of FOX 29’s Good Day Philadelphiaand Matt Cord of 93.3 WMMR. (I think there were a couple others but I couldn’t see past the towering burgers that kept being placed in front of me).

Art of Bread by Georges Perrier

For many years, Georges Perrier has been both my teacher and my friend. I have always known him as a true artist but it was never as apparent to me as when we were part of a group holidaying in the south of France a few years ago. Everyday, Georges could be found either at the market shopping for the freshest and most beautiful produce or in the kitchen, effortlessly whipping up any number of delicious meals and snacks. Needless to say, my dear friend lives and breathes the art of food, and now, that also includes the art of bread.
