Shift Drink: This Halloween Be A Tattooed Mom

As an industry worker zipping around on your feet all day, the best part of the day is enjoying a shift drink: a post-work alcoholic beverage to decompress, take a load off, and yes, enjoy a nice buzz before heading home to bed. In this series, we’ll be exploring the many fantastic bar programs of Philadelphia where you can treat yourself after a hard day’s work. Halloween is approaching fast, so let’s get in the holiday spirit with a trip to a wonderfully wacky bar decked out with candy and decorations!

Located on South Street between 5th and 6th is a quirky bar with an equally quirky name – Tattooed Mom. When you enter, immediately your eyes are drawn to the bright lime green walls, funky furniture and hanging string lights. The crew at Tattooed Mom love to decorate for the holidays – spooky skeletons, cobwebs, spiders and more. As if this atmosphere wasn’t enough to get you in the mood for Halloween festivities, every table, countertop and bar has wrapped candy for you to snack on!

There are two bars in the establishment where you can order rotating draft beers, bottles, and unique cocktails like the “Pop Rocket,” which combines Stoli Razberi, raspberry liqueur, lemon soda and pop rocks candy. While the beverage game is strong at Tattooed Mom, yes, there’s food for all. Vegans can rejoice over the numerous options that the menu has to offer: falafel and hummus, vegan pickle fried chick’n sandwich and more. Their bar snacks are on point, especially the waffle cheese fries. Tattooed Mom really wins you over with their daily special deals. As I went on a Wednesday night and was peckish from a long day at work, I opted for the Mom’s Classic Burger (can be beef or vegan), only $4 every Wednesday until midnight. Not only is happy hour from 5 – 7 PM, but there’s a late night happy hour from 10 – 11 PM, making it a great option for late night industry workers. With two different happy hours that give you half-off draft beers, it’s no wonder Philadelphia Magazine named them Best Of Philly Late-Night Happy Hour in 2018!

After I enjoyed my burger, I ventured upstairs to grab another drink. That’s where things get interesting. For starters, I drank my beer in an old amusement park bumper car that’s been repurposed as an awesome bar chair. The walls, ceiling, floor, doors and furniture are absolutely filled with graffiti, prints, skateboard decks, stickers – you name it! This space was designed to be an art gallery for the Philadelphia community and often Tattooed Mom has pop-up exhibitions. Learn more about this vibrant space on their website.

While Tattooed Mom is a great bar destination year round, the punky, candy-filled venue is perfect for this scary time of year. Catch one of their upcoming Halloween events like Hocus Pocus Quizzo or Tarot Reading Night! You’re never too old for Halloween. Just go to Tattooed Mom and see for yourself!
