BADENHORST CAPERITIF
From South Africa comes Caperitif, a fortified wine made from Chenin Blanc, infused with citrus and 35 natural botanicals, many of which are unique to the biodiversity of the Cape Floral Region. By the end of the 20th century, Caperitif had become a ghost ingredient in classic cocktail recipes. What was this mysterious ‘Cape Aperitif’ referenced in the classic cocktail bible The Savoy Cocktail Book? This question asked by an adventurous Danish bartender led to a meeting with a maverick South African winemaker and the rebirth of South Africa’s once-famous vermouth.

How to drink it: Caperitif may be enjoyed in gin cocktails or simply over ice with tonic and a lemon peel.

TEMPUS FUGIT KINA L’AERO D’OR
Kina L’Aéro d’Or (The Golden Airplane) reflects an Alps-Provence style aperitif made from Piedmont-grown Cortese infused with cinchona bark, orange peel, wormwood and other spices. It has a beautiful deep golden hue with an aroma of quince and fine marmalade, and a complex, mildly bitter taste that balances a gentle sweetness.

How to drink it: Kina Aéro d’Or is absolutely spectacular in classic cocktails such as the Vesper or Corpse Reviver #2, but you can go the spritz route with either tonic or club soda.
