During the dog days of summer, it’s only natural to reach for a bottle of cold, crisp white or rosé. However, chillable reds are indeed a thing, and we can’t recommend them enough – especially when you’re firing up the grill! Check out our selection next time you’re in the mood for a little grillin’ and chillin.’ Shop in-store daily from 11AM to 8PM or reserve online for curbside pick up.
Filippo Cassano CALX Primitivo (Puglia, Italy)
This certified organic red from Puglia is a lively take on Primitivo with notes of hard herbs, cedar, red and dark berry fruit, and present minerality. Enjoy slightly chilled with grilled poultry, firm sheep cheeses, and tomato ragù.
Colterenzio “St Magdalener” Schiava (Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy)
Brilliant translucent ruby red in color, “St Magdalener” opens with a fruity bouquet of black cherry and violets, expanding to a medium-bodied palate of red summer fruits. Soft, spicy, and refreshing, this one’s ideal with charcuterie, pasta dishes with meat sauces, pizza, and mild cheeses.
Santa Tresa Frappato Terre Siciliane (Sicily)
Frappato is a lively, fruit-forward wine with a vivid red color and gentle purple tones. The bouquet on the nose is fresh with tons of red berries and delicate sweet spices. A very pleasant, well-balanced, and smooth sip, with lively acidity and a spicy, long-lasting aftertaste.
JH Meyer Carbonic Pinot Noir (Western Cape, South Africa)
Since 2013, there has not been a single spray on this South African vineyard, and it was officially certified organic in 2018. This strawberry-colored Pinot Noir has aromas of red berries and spices, with a distinct yet alluring, woodsiness. There is a lovely fruitiness (but not sweetness) to the palate – strawberry, cranberry, orange peel. A nearly Negroni sort of palate! Serve with meaty, oily fish.
Halkia Agiorgitiko Reddish (Greece)
Female-produced and certified organic, Halkia’s Reddish is juicy and velvety, with notes of freshly cut strawberries and forest fruit on the nose, as well as a lighter body and slightly austere palate.
2019 La Patience Vin Rouge (Rhône Valley, France)
A medium-bodied, juicy, almost glou-glou style wine with tons of red raspberry and blue fruits on the nose, backed by an array of herbs on the palate, with eucalyptus, thyme, and mint all coming through clearly. A bright, fun, everyday table wine, perfect for burgers in the backyard!
Brunn Blauer Zweigelt Niederosterreich (Austria)
On the nose, this wine bursts with bitter and bright cranberry, as well as rose bush. The palate offers black raspberry, a bit of barnyard, and cracked black pepper. A savory glou-glou Zweigelt with a dry finish, pair it with grilled chicken or bring it out with BBQ brisket or pulled pork. Bonus: it’s a liter-sized bottle!
Bojo do Luar Vinho Tinto “Deu Pinote” (Vinho Verde, Portugal)
An organic, lip-smacking red blend, Deu Pinote is equal parts three native Portuguese grapes. This is a chillable red with strong minerality, a floral nose, and bright and fresh pomegranate. Best served with meaty fish, crunchy greens, or as an aperitif.
Companon Arrieta “Herrigoia” Rioja (Rioja, Spain)
Another bottle for burgers, Herrigoia is an atypical expression of Rioja, meant to be drunk young and chilled. Notes of blue fruit, cranberry, and red currant are balanced with warm spices. Need a bottle for dessert? Enjoy this Rioja with chocolate-based desserts!
Erasmo Barbera-Garnacha (Chile)
Another organic selection, Erasmo greets you with intense aromas of ripe, wild berries, sweet chocolate, and spices. Berries and spice repeat on the palate, ending with just a touch of sweetness. Its bright, lively acidity pairs with low but ripe tannins. Super flexible for food pairing – white meat, fish, pasta, even mushrooms and most vegetables.
Via Revolucionaria Criolla Grande (Mendoza, Argentina)
A natural red wine out of Argentina, Revolucionaria is bright and translucent cherry in color, looking like a dark rosé, but it’s delicate in body and texture. Very drinkable with soft tannins and notes of juicy cherry and tart raspberry. Fantastic with tapas!
