While you can pick up all of these to take home or to a picnic meetup, you may also buy a chilled bottle and enjoy it at one of our outdoor café tables!
First things first – what exactly is a pét-nat? Think of it as Champagne’s quirky cousin. While traditional sparkling wines go through a second fermentation process, by which sugar and yeast is added, pét-nats are bottled while still undergoing the first round of fermentation. This method is referred to as methode ancestral, whereby the grapes’ natural sugars produce the bubbles during the fermentation. Pét-nat wines are typically unfined and unfiltered, lending a hazy appearance with sediment – don’t worry, it’s perfectly natural!
On to our pét-nat selections!
Scribe Pét-Nat Rosé (Sonoma, California)
Sonoma’s Scribe Winery has a very devoted following. One taste of this killer rosé pét-nat will explain why. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, you’ll enjoy notes of raspberry, tarragon and lavender.
Red Tail Ridge Winery Pinot Noir Pét-Nat (Finger Lakes, NY)
Another Pinot Noir based selection, this Finger Lakes pét-nat is rich, ample and complex with a full crimson-like color. It’s rich on the nose with nuts, marzipan, ripe apples and toast. The palate is powerful with spice, concentrated red cherry, toast, wax and marzipan. Great minerality and salinity in the mix!
Niepoort Nat Cool Branco (Portugal)
From Portugal’s Vinho Verde region, this blend celebrates the cloudy style of wines produced in the area. It’s fresh and vibrant with citrus and vegetal notes, high acidity, and a refreshingly saline finish. Fantastic with traditional “patiscos” appetizers, including fried cod fritters and cured sausages.
Duckman Sparkling Rosé Pét-Nat (Portugal)
Also from Portugal, the ever popular Duckman Rosé Pét-Nat is made from 100% Baga. Fruity and juicy with strawberry and cherry, it’s delicious with a pulled pork sandwich, a perfect summer pairing!
Pet’ Mout’ Chardonnay Pét-Nat (Burgundy, France)
White gold in color, this 100% Chardonnay based pét-nat is NOT your typical White Burgundy. The floral, citrus and mineral aromas are accompanied with fresh acidity, offering a lovely balance between aromatic power and softness. Enjoy as an aperitif or with starters – confit poultry with pears or dried fruits, scallops, river fish.
Karanika Rosé Pét-Nat (Macedonia, Greece)
Organic Xinomavro grapes provide a rich yeasty nose, aromas of strawberry, framboise and a mouth-filling creamy texture, contrasted with bright acidity. A balanced, cold climate sparkling wine, it’s perfect as an aperitif but incredible with smoked salmon, caviar and jamón iberico.
