We all know Philly is a great beer-drinking city but it is also a great wine-drinking city worthy of its own weeklong celebration.
Philly Wine Week is a citywide festival of eight days and effervescent nights from March 22-29. Attendees can expect exciting events at some of the city’s best restaurants, bars and other venues (including COOK). Additionally, there will be fun and casual nightly “Wine at Nine” gatherings. A wrap party capping the week is in the works.
As Philly Wine Week heads into its second year, oenophiles and wine enthusiasts of all stripes can look forward to more than double the number of participating bars and restaurants with festive days and nights of wine tastings, talks, pairing dinners, and other spirited events. All events will be posted on PWW website. PWW’s Wine at Nine events held throughout the city at 9pm, foster community and create an opportunity for wine professionals, industry insiders and wine enthusiasts to come together at a new location each night following events.
“For our first year, we focused on throwing a few great parties. This year we’re taking Philly Wine Week to the next level with expanded events and many more participants,” said PWW co-founder, Kate Moroney.
Philly Wine Week is the brainchild of wine professionals Bill Eccleston (Panorama) and Kate Moroney (Vintage). Philly Wine Week was created to promote wine knowledge and greater enthusiasm and appreciation for wine in Philadelphia. Additionally, PWW is intended to build camaraderie among Philadelphia wine professionals and foster community among restaurateurs, sommeliers, GMs, chefs, bartenders, industry people in general, and wine-lovers throughout the metropolitan area who come together in Philadelphia to enjoy exceptional wines.
Some PWW participants include many of the city’s best wine bars and restaurants such as Alla Spina, A.Kitchen, Amada, Barbuzzo, COOK, Jamonera, Jake’s, Jet Wine Bar, Osteria, Panorama, Paradiso Restaurant & Wine Bar, The Good King Tavern, Sassafras, Tinto, Tria, Townsend, Vedge, Vetri, Volver, The Restaurant School at Walnut Street College, and Zavino. Thirsty for more? The second annual Philly Wine Week kicks off Sunday, March 22, 2015, with “Opening Corks” — a spirited tasting gala featuring premium sparkling and white wines, as well as a selection of rosés at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 5-8pm.
Guests at Opening Corks will sample a wide variety of exceptional vintages while also enjoying hors d’oeuvres from the likes of Alla Spina, Jet Wine Bar, Panorama, Tria Café and others in PAFA’s Frank Furness landmark building on North Broad Street. Tickets to Opening Corks are $75 per person and may be purchased here.
