Homestyle cooking doesn’t go out of style. As much as the food warms your heart, it’s often the jovial and comforting service that accompanies it that will keep you coming back. That’s what you have with Noord and now Winkel. Joncarl Lachman came back to Philly 6 years ago and continues to make anyone that crosses his threshold feel like family. Time and again, the Darling Dutchman brings that spirit to COOK.
Thursday, October 3, 6 pm: Cocktails and Tinned Fish Happy Hour with Jennifer Sabatino of Manatawny Still Works
With licenses and opportunities becoming more readily available, Pottstown-based Manatawny Still Works started producing spirits in 2015. Highlighting what Pennsylvania has to offer, their portfolio continues to expand with seasonal and limited edition releases. With a retail shop and tasting room on Passyunk Avenue, you can try their wares as they are or through general manager Jennifer Sabatino’s lens. With those cocktails, you can try plenty of local nibbles as well as a particular snack that pays homage to Spanish tapas bars: tinned fish. Enjoy it all at this tin-tastic happy hour!

You never know who is going to accompany soul food maven Malik Ali when he returns to COOK, but akin to the idea that this food is best shared with family, you can trust it’ll be one of the many loved ones that support his food endeavors. You can also believe that you will leave satisfied. He doesn’t shy away from putting up a hearty lineup.
Friday, October 11, 6 pm: A Tall Glass of Fall: Autumnal Beers and Ciders with Meredith Rebar of Home Brewed Events
Seasonal drinking is not a new phenomenon. Consumers have long spoken that they expect plenty of pumpkin and apple in their beverages when the weather trends cooler. Bringing a variety of local offerings, you’ll walk away from Meredith Rebar’s class with plenty of history, knowledge, and of course, not thirsty anymore. As an added bonus, Meredith will brew some beer on the spot that guests can pick up at a later date.
Wednesday, October 30, 7 pm: Cooking with Hemp and CBD with Chris Paul of Everything We Eat
The veil is being pulled back on the benefits and effects of CBD and other cannabis derivatives. There are several varieties of hemp plants that are grown for food, and their seeds pack a powerfully nutritional punch, plus a pleasantly nutty taste. With hemp seeds, hemp meal and CBD oil popularity on the rise, you may not know where to begin if you’re interested in incorporating these ingredients into your bag of tricks.
