2013 Audi FEASTIVAL Patron Party

Thank you to all attendees of last week’s Patron Party for the 2013 Audi FEASTIVAL! Co-hosted by Stephen Starr, Michael Solomonov and Audrey Claire Taichman, FEASTIVAL has been described as a “completely delicious and amazing” evening and named “one of the best events in the last decade.” The annual event (now in its fourth year), which benefits FringeArts, celebrates both our artistic and culinary scenes – two great economic engines that push Philadelphia forward.

Garden-To-Glass Cocktails

Last week, we tried something different. Sure, we’ve had many a cocktail class here at COOK but never before have we paired cocktails with (wait for it…) flower arrangements. Our “Garden to Glass” evening was led by master mixologist Resa Mueller of Twenty Manning Grill and Nadine Louw and Katie Drinkwater of Flowers & Company. A spectacular time was had by all, and we’re happy to provide you, our loyal readers, with the cocktail recipes from the evening. Cheers!

Audi FEASTIVAL Month at COOK

Au revoir, July. Bonjour, August. Or should we say ‘bonjour, Audi FEASTIVAL Month.’ Either way you say it, we’re particularly excited about the upcoming month of classes. Not just because the classes themselves are sure to be spectacular, but because each class brings us one meal closer to the main event: the 2013 Audi FEASTIVAL. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past three years, let us bring you up to speed. Co-hosted by Stephen Starr, Michael Solomonov and Audrey Claire Taichman, FEASTIVAL (now in it’s fourth year) brings together 85+ of Philadelphia’s top chefs for one night to benefit FringeArts. Described as a “completely delicious and amazing” evening and named “one of the best events in the last decade,” FEASTIVAL celebrates both our artistic and culinary scenes – two great economic engines that push Philadelphia forward.

A Filipino Fiesta: The Remix

They say that if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. This past March, COOK hosted a Filipino Feast with Chef Lou Boquila of Audrey Claire, who was joined by local food writer Drew Lazor. Also in attendance were Jillian Encarnacion and Resa Mueller of Twenty Manning Grill (and of Filipino heritage), who created the evening’s cocktails. And in case you were wondering, no, there were no Filipiña Coladas…

The evening was a sold-out success so in the why-mess-with-a-good-thing spirit, we invited the gang back for a Filipino Fiesta Redux, which occurred last night. A bonus of the evening: Lou and Jillian both provided our guests with the evening’s recipes. So rather than provide you with a blow-by-blow recap of the evening, we’re sharing the recipes with you. With that, bon appétit to your inner Filipino!

FAQ: How do I get into COOK?

One of the most common questions we get here at COOK is, “How do I get into a class?” The question is often followed by, “It seems like you’re always sold out!” While there are always SOME seats available to select classes, getting into the class of your (first) choice does indeed require some planning. So with July’s schedule coming out tomorrow at 2pm, we’d like to take the opportunity to offer some class registration tips.

June Seats Still Available!

What do Austrian wines, Cajun cooking and gluten-free cooking have in common? Nothing…Except for the fact that they are topics of upcoming June classes that YOU can still attend. If you’re thinking, “I’d love to go to COOK but classes sell out so quickly,” we have three opportunities for you.

Rival Brotherly Love

COOK’s boutiqe packs a powerful punch. In a cozy corner of our demonstration kitchen is a highly concentrated retail nook filled to the brim with utensils, herbs and spices, soaps, candles, and pantry essentials. More and more, we have been adding local artisan goods to the mix. You may recall previous blog posts detailing such local items–pickles from Jersey Gina’s Gems, Side Project Jerky, and the Fresh Food Memory Game to name a few.

Our most recent local addition? COOK now carries a variety of whole bean coffee from Rival Bros. Coffee Roasters.

We Got Game(s)!

If you’re familiar with COOK’s boutique, then you know about our private label pantry items, soaps, candles, cookbook collection, and local artisan foods such as Side Project Jerky, Rival Bros. Coffee and Jersey Gina’s Jems. But now there’s something on our shelves specifically for the youngins: The Fresh Food Memory Game, a creative take on the classic family box game that you may know simply as “Memory” or “Concentration.” An added bonus: all proceeds benefit art programs in under-resourced public schools.

2012 Audi FEASTIVAL Ultimate Dinner Party

Planning is now under way for the 2013 Audi Feastival, an annual celebration bringing together Philadelphia’s top chefs and restaurants to benefit FringeArts. A highlight of each FEASTIVAL is the evening’s  auction — a number of exclusive packages go up for bidding, with all proceeds directly supporting the arts in Philadelphia. The ultimate food-centric experience offered as part of 2012’s auction became an opulent reality in March, when six of the city’s most celebrated chefs created a dinner party to remember for an exclusive group of Philly-based patrons of the arts.
